![]() ![]() You can only own one stock and if there's a Stock Market Crash (someone lands on it), you lose one stock. The stock has a number and any time a player spins that number, you collect $10,000 from the bank. At the start of any turn, you can buy a stock for $50,000. The Stock Market mechanic is pure insanity. When you think back to the happiest moment from last year, what do you think about it? It's probably not seeing a direct deposit line item in your bank account. The Game of Life's objective might be to have the most money, but in my Real life the objective is something very different. #The game of life pc 1998 freeIt's family, it's friends, it's holidays, it's free time, and so many other hours not captured in the 40+ of work. My post about Why Do You Work? is one of the most popular on the site because it's a question we all want to understand about ourselves. ![]() I want enough to support our lives but so many things are ahead of money in importance. ![]() Graduate and I could get paid that sweet sweet startup money!Īs I write this today, at 35 with two kids and barely into what I consider my “real adulthood,” money is a means to an end. It helped that I enjoyed the problem solving and tinkering but the #1 overriding factor was money. No disrespect to other majors but in 1998, computer science at a premier university was your meal ticket. I chose Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University because your chances were pretty good. When I was deciding what to study in college, the number one factor was the career prospects of that field. Money is important but is it the objective of life? If you were to ask someone ambitious, hungry, and 20 - money seems all-important.Īsk someone who is 40. The goal of The Game of Life is to “Collect money and LIFE tiles, and have the highest dollar amount at the end of the game.” (By the way, there's a space where you pay $5,000 for spring break if you go to college - that alone should disqualify this game from Real Life!) The goal isn't money What you decide in your twenties is not your lot in life. What you decide at the beginning of the game does not set your path for life. It also ignores how often someone can change careers at any time. If you have skills that are in abundance, you can't. If you have skills that in demand, you can command a higher salary. Let's ignore the other mechanics of the game (how paydays are determined, other benefits like the Computer Consultant gets paid $50,000 anytime the spinner stops between numbers or comes off the track) but the basic premise is that to get a higher payday you need to go to college. There are 9 careers and only 2 careers (Doctor, Accountant) require a college degree. If you go to college, you are saddled with $100,000 of debt but you could get a career with a higher salary. There are “Trade salary card with any player” boxes you can land on but those were added later to balance out the game, there's no Real Life equivalent. It starts at the beginning and it determines your income for (potentially) the remainder of the game. In The Game of Life, there is only one major life-altering decision you can make – Start College or Start Career. (OK I let them play it but you get my point, but no thanks to Monopoly) There are more than two paths That's why I won't let my kids play The Game of Life. The Game of Life is one massive invisible script for how you should Real Life. Invisible scripts, a term I learned from Ramit Sethi, are those beliefs that are “pre-written by our societal values.” Limiting beliefs, which seem to go hand in hand with invisible scripts, are those beliefs that constrain us in some way. We go through life with invisible scripts and limiting beliefs. (or more to the point, it would have messed me up if I believed life had to be lived that way) Here's something I realized much much later – the Game of Life kind of messed me up for actual life. (what we really need is The Game of Being a Kid – I'll trade being told to eat my vegetables if I don't have to write TPS reports) ![]() It was fun because it let you pretend to be an adult while you were a kid. You gave the spinner a whirl, drove your little plastic car around, and “lived” life – picking career or college, getting married, having kids, buying insurance, upgrading your house, etc. If you were a kid in the 80s, you probably played it too. When I was a kid, one of my favorite games was The Game of Life. ![]() ![]() prostaglandin or its derivatives - but since these are known to have drug-like activity and are not approved by FDA for use on eyebrows, our Beauty Lab experts recommend avoiding them. ![]() Well, some might be formulated with ingredients in the bimatoprost family, a.k.a. ![]() So, if you're interested in using either of these ingredients on your eyebrows, you'll want to consult your doctor before doing so.īut if they don't contain bimatoprost or minoxidil, you may be wondering what exactly all those non-prescription eyebrow growth serums on the market do contain. While there is evidence that both bimatoprost and minoxidil are effective in growing eyebrow hair, neither ingredient is currently FDA-approved for eyebrows (Latisse is only FDA-approved for eyelashes minoxidil is the only OTC ingredient approved by the FDA for head hair growth). Bimatoprost is the active ingredient in prescription-only eyelash growth serum Latisse, while minoxidil is the active ingredient in over-the-counter topical treatment Rogaine. FLEXIGLASS CANOPIES PRICE WINDOWSYou'll pay extra for the canopy roof bars and lift up side windows of course but they are sure worth it. I meticulously inspected the whole get up and I reckon it's really well made. My boss has a Flexiglass on his new 05 DC Hilux IMO the ARB and Flexiglass suit what you want and have the features and strength too. Thursday, at 21:21 Well Beddo, plenty of food for thought so far eh? We don't have roof racks on any of our canopies. I also put my 80L Waeco behind it so I can access it from the side and not get in the way when accessing the ute through the tailgate. I have one on the passenger side on my Rodeo. The tradesman's windows are worth every cent when you have the ute fully packed and want something from the front. ![]() One thing ARB reckoned was that their plastic canopy had no smell. Also there is no seal to stuff up later on. I reckon the IFP looks heaps better than the riveted in one. However the Raider canopy on our F250 is fibreglass yet it also has the integrated front panel. They told me when I was shopping around for a canopy for my Rodeo that ARB could do the integrated front panel as it is plastic and you can't do it with fibreglass. I think the Raider and ARB design which has a canopy with an integrated front panel is better than the TJM and Flexiglass design which has a riveted in extra panel. I crossed Carryboy off the list as it didn't have a high roof model or lift up sides. I didn't get a Flexiglass as I preferred the ARB look and design. Never used a Flexiglass canopy or Carryboy although I looked at them. However with the velcro it sits a little higher and I haven't had a problem with hitting it. I used velcro to put it back on so if I pulled it off I could just stick it back on. I broke the bracket when a bag caught on it that I was getting out of the ute. Also the brake light is in an easy to break spot. ARB replaced the whole door under warranty. I have had only one problem in 2 years and that was the rear window glass (I have the newer frameless glass) slipped from its hinge clamp (will know what I mean if you look at one). ARB has an extremely strong bracketed channel design you will have to look at as I can't explain it. Dodgy as hell easy removal system with riveted brackets onto tray and then bolts with wing nuts. Was held on by 1 bolt when he noticed it. Hence the new rear doors we had.Ī friends TJM canopy on a Hilux almost fell off. Also with the TJM you could open the tailgate even with the canopy window closed and locked. Even imported from Canada it was the same price as TJM but it is 4000% better and looks 5000% better. The Raider is imported from Canada to replace the TJM canopy (Canadian for a F250). We never paid anything so only loss was a lot of time and angst. So we drove to their workshop and told them they could take it back. After about 3 months we still hadn't paid as we said we would pay when it was fixed. They replaced the back door three times in a couple of weeks. Thursday, at 17:53So far we have had TJM, ARB and Raider. If I had my time again, I would have a carryboy, no questions. Lastly, the Carry boys look much better than the Flexi glass canopies. The flexiglass roof rack isn't removable without removing the bolts and plugging the holes. FLEXIGLASS CANOPIES PRICE FULLPut a roof bar on the carry boy, and the roof of the Hilux, and you have a full length roof rack, which is removable. The Carryboy supports 150kg standard I believe, as it has the internal support built in. They fixed it for me, but it isn't the same as it was when new. I also had the misfortune of catching the handles on the garage door and breaking them off, and bending the back window. I pop riverted the catch back on, but for $80 fitted, it is a pretty cheap shoddy vent. I put a flip up pressure vent on mine, what a pain, its very hard to get open, then at Camerons Corner the stupid catch breaks off trying to open it, so it is now permanently open, thankfully it didn't rain till I fixed it. The Carry boy has nice gutters to stop this. When the back window is up and raining, it leaks the rain into the canopy. You can shut a carry boy by pushing it shut, it catches automatically, not requiring you to do up the two handles. ![]() Thursday, at 17:17Have you done the sums including the roof racks and lift up windows on the flexi glass versus the carry boy?Īlso the carry boy has one handle, versus two on the Flexiglass and others. ![]() ![]() ![]()

(As with the comparison of Kindle and print, this measurement is based on too little data to be conclusive. In my testing, the iPhone had 6% slower reading speed than Kindle 2. Kindle Reader on iPhoneĪmazon also provides an iPhone application that can display Kindle-format e-books. To truly optimize the non-linear user experience, they'd have to completely reconceptualize the Kindle design. But doing so would simply apply a band-aid. Sure, Amazon designers could fix simple UI stupidities, such as the interaction design for a newspaper ToC. So, the design decisions that make Kindle good for reading novels (and linear non-fiction) make it a bad device for reading non-linear content. ![]() Unfortunately, this is untrue for many other content collections, including newspapers, magazines, and even some non-fiction books such as travel guides, encyclopedias, and cookbooks. ![]() The idea that you'd want to start on a section's first page makes sense for a book because most are based on linear exposition. The usability problem with non-linear content is crucial because it indicates a deeper issue: Kindle's user experience is dominated by the book metaphor. Even so, it's still bad GUI design to make the most important commands tiny and thus reduce their visual emphasis.) However, the 5-way controller makes it equally easy to pick a small or a big target indeed, this is its only redeeming quality. (If Kindle were a touchscreen device or a mouse-driven UI, I'd further complain about the Fitts' Law implications of using the smallest click target for the most important choice. In fact, after two weeks, I still make the mistake of doing the only natural thing: I click a section's name to see a list of articles. To see the section's list of articles, you have to click the number in parentheses that indicates the number of stories. That click takes you only to the section's first article. Where would you click in this screenshot?Įverybody I've asked said they'd click "Technology" to see that section's articles.įalse. In short: Awkward pointing + slow reaction = a bad user experience that discourages people from exploring and attempting different tasks. Even turning the page takes slightly longer than it should, and all other actions are definitely sluggish. Every time you enter a command, it ponders the situation before acting. Interacting through the Kindle 5-way feels much like many mid-level smartphone user interfaces, though the 5-way is worse than a BlackBerry mini-trackball.įurthermore, Kindle is slow. The 5-way owns the cursor, not you, and getting the cursor where you want it requires a lot of work. It doesn't feel like direct manipulation at all. Repeatedly flicking the 5-way to move the cursor around the screen is extremely tedious. Most Kindle interactions are mediated by a small joystick called the 5-way, which lets you move the cursor in 4 directions pressing down enables the fifth action. While reading, your only interaction is to repeatedly press the next-page button. The device thus offers good support for the task of linear reading - appropriately so, as Kindle's design is centered on this one use case. Paging backwards is a less common action, but it's also nicely supported with a separate, smaller button. This one command has two buttons (on either side of the device). Kindle shines in one area of interaction design: turning the page is extremely easy and convenient. (See sidebar for analysis of Kindle's Out-of-Box Experience: unwrapping and "installing" the device.) Awkward Interaction Design This fact alone is high praise for the device designers. ![]() But when I actually sat down to read the novel, I became so engrossed in the story that I forgot I was reading from an electronic device. When I was carrying Kindle through the house, I felt like a Star Trek character with a datapad. ( Update: a bigger study found that the Kindle 2's reading speed was still slightly slower than printed books, though much better than old studies used to find for computer-based reading.) So I can't say for sure that Kindle has finally reached the nirvana of equal readability for screens and paper. Of course, one person reading one book is not a proper measurement study. My reading speed was exactly the same (less than 0.5% difference), measured in words per minute. Alternating for each chapter, I read half the book in print and half on the Kindle screen. It now provides good usability for reading linear fiction (mainly novels), though it's less usable for other reading tasks.Īs an experiment, I bought two copies of the same book: a trade paperback and a Kindle download. The new version of Kindle, 's dedicated e-book device, recently shipped with an improved display and various other upgrades. ![]() ![]() So as you can see the majority of the settings are pretty much the same for each wheel model, with some minor variations. General Thrustamster settings considerations Now that we’ve done that, we’re ready to get started with our wheel settings for each different Thrustmaster steering wheel. Now that we know where to change our wheel settings, let’s start with the basics and configure the in-game wheel settings for each Thrustmaster model. Recommended ACC Thrustmaster wheel settings In order for you to change the Thrustmaster wheel settings in ACC you’ll have to open the “options” menu in ACC, then go to “controls”, “Wheel”, and finally head over to “Force Feedback” and “Advanced” to change the settings of your Thrustmaster steering. #ASSETTO CORSA COMPETIZIONE FFB SETTINGS HOW TO#So having said that, let’s get right into it! In fact, purchasing one of the best wheels on the market isn’t gonna improve your lap times if the settings are all over the place… In this guide, we’ll go over the entire process of how to configure your Thrustmaster wheel in Assetto Corsa Competizione for unlocking pure performance. 50% power/gain/strength is already inhuman and barely controllable in any sim I tested so far.Looking for the best settings for your newly unboxed Thrustmaster steering wheel? Driving a high downforce car is a workout with this.īefore a DD wheel usually clips you're not able to handle it anymore I guess. In rF2 I have 40% in the simucube profiler and 0.7 multiplier in the car settings. ![]() that matches the ACC FFB strength very good. So in Raceroom I use 50% steering forces, 30% FFB strength and 100% in the profiler. ![]() ![]() In Raceroom I just have to up the steering forces and I can get clipping easily (the FFB graph shows it but it still doesn't feel like clipping like I had with the T300). I bet the FFB meter goes more wild when I turn them up a bit. I don't use them, I get more than enough effects naturally. I guess this also has something to do with the FFB effects in ACC. Having it at 30% gain is already too strong lol :-\ The FFB meter in ACC barely moves. #ASSETTO CORSA COMPETIZIONE FFB SETTINGS SOFTWARE#I have my SimuCUBE (20Nm SmallMiGE) at 100% in the software and 25% gain in ACC and it's already insanely strong at peaks (much more than I ever experienced with non DD wheels). What is a Signal Booster and How Does It Work?Ī signal booster will increase data speeds, improve voice quality, and help to eliminate dropped calls. ![]() In these instances, signal boosters make great allies for remedying this lack of signal and restoring consistent, solid service for the home or on the job. However, given certain circumstances, dead zones and weak cell service can happen anywhere - inside of a home, office, or vehicle. In highly congested areas, such as busy, crowded city centers, one can experience weak signals if trapped in an “urban canyon.” The same problem can be found in extremely rural areas where cell towers are too far away for cell phones to reliably communicate. ![]() While the Verizon network is vast and populated enough to deliver reliable cell service to a lot of the United States, there are still many instances where signal strength is diminished. ![]() ![]() ![]() 100% SATISFACTION: no reason for return or change.
